i've come across this magazine 'untitled' and think it looks absolutely beautiful. it reminds me of the magazine lula which i love. delicate, soft photoshoots, with attention to typography and graphics and illustrations throughout.
"Filmed over the course of two years, OUR CITY DREAMS is an invitation to visit the creative spaces of five women artists, each of whom possesses her own energy, drive and passion. These women, who span different decades and represent diverse cultures, have one thing in common beyond making art: the city to which they have journeyed and now call home - New York. "
OUR CITY DREAMS WEBSITE
"Our City Dreams is a documentary by Chiara Clemente, who has a unique talent for making intimate portraits of people and capturing the feeling of a person's world. It follows five women artists who live and work in New York and explores not just their work but their relationship to the city they love."
mother's* mission: to make coca cola as renowned for summer as it is for christmas
this was the outcome:
when an infamous brand such as coca cola tries something new, it is always interesting to see what they come out with. earlier this year, the coca cola team decided that their summer adverts must be as iconic as the christmas ones.
the christmas advertisements, with the well known 'holiday's are coming' slogan create nostalgia and excitement all over the world...quite a feat to live up to.
the summer collection is different and quirky....goodness knows where they got their inspiration from, but i quite like them! shame i didn't see them over the summer, or was that just me?
having visited cape town frequently since i was born to see family and friends, i always find it exciting when i see the beautiful cape used in advertising. though it is often used as a location for television commercials due to the amazing light, i rarely come across fashion shoots, especially that of which show the mountain so clearly. i stumbled across this amazing shoot on designscene.net. the feel is retro and and chic, with a strong model.
i love the illustrations produced by mark weaver. the delicate drawings and imagery layered on top of each other with a soft colour palette really caught my attention. i particularly like the fox head illustration, it seems to be very topical with the fantastic mr fox film having recently been released.
this week i visited the new anthropologie store on regent street. having waited long enough for anthropologie to cross the pond, it's finally here...and it's amazing.
the in-store envirmonment created by visual merchansing is truly a work of art; from the inviting window displays to the friendly giant whale suspending in the kitchen and dining area of the shop. the whole american anthropologie atmosphere has been translated so well, it felt like i had stepped off of a new york street.
one of my favourite aspects of the store is the plant wall. it creates a beautiful texure and colour palette for the store and is a really great feature.
whilst the prices of the products are pretty high, the whole store is a real experience. i'm a big fan
the whale image was taken from decor8 blog, and the image of the planted wall is my own
lula has a fabulous new website now ready for our lucky eyes. filled with beautiful short films capturing the essence of the magazine.
one of my favourite aspects of the website is the 'scrapbook' section; a little round-the-world insight from the people of lula.
one image which caugh my attention was the beautiful (once upon a time) bridget bardot...this is in aid of the promotion for an exhibiton at James Hyman Gallery on Saville Row in London.
couple of weeks ago i was so happy when i was flicking through a new york summer calender and saw that that night slow club, the wave pictures and casiokids were all playing a mini music festival in the evening. slow club and casiokids are two of my faves, so i was even happier when i saw that it was free. held at pier 17 in seaport, downtown manhattan looking over the brooklyn skyline...beautiful sunset and surrounded by boats gave a rather special setting.
fashion photographer richard avedon defined the role as a fashion photographer.
working for harpers bazaar and vogue during his lengthly career he went from helping reinvent paris as a glamorous city after the war through to helping actress' and models such as twiggy, jean shrimpton, bridget bardot, brooke shields become fashion icons.
these are some of my favourite shots from the exhibiton
retro style bowling alley in williamsburg, brooklyn teamed with a western style bar with a fun laid back atmosphere allowing new yorkers can bowl away 'til three in the morning.
also at the M+B gallery were a few peices by Massimo Vitali. i had seen some of his work earlier that day, so was happy to stumble across some large prints. i love them on them in books and even on the screen, but printed out properly they look amazing.

as i have been venturing around the USA, i haven't had much time unfortunately to do much blogging. time now to share a few things which i have enjoyed visually...
first of all...LA
i lovelovelove LA, so much to see and do
something i particualrly enjoyed was the M+B gallery which is currently holding the 'Barack Obama: the freshman' exhibition...
"Lisa Jack, then a student of photography at Occidental College, sought a striking subject for a portrait project and was tipped off about a charismatic freshman named “Barry” Obama who would make an ideal subject.
After the shoot, these images would remain locked away for the next 28 years, until a dare from a friend triggered Lisa Jack to seek them out.
At first worried these images could be used against President Obama, Jack realized they were not incriminating of anything other than being young and self-conscious, and that they offered a unique glimpse into how the man who made history went from being “Barry” to Barack.
This exhibition marks the first time these rare photographs have ever been printed and on display."
