the tattoo trend
are tattoos simply a fashion trend?
with so many people these days inking their skin it has become a modern day phenomenon...but will it go out of fashion? is there going to be some special way of not maintaining the quality of the image when the skin gets old and wrinkly?!
some i love and some i hate, but i can't help thinking, no trend lasts forever. i change my wardrobe, hair and general style far too much to be sure of having something on me forever!
this photoshoot is way back from december 2007, vogue italia, but i thought it was appropriate for my thoughts!
Tattoos probably will drop out of fashion at some point, I think of a lot of people I know (myself included) walking around when their fifty looking completely pathetic with wrinkly clumps of green and black splattered across their arms. You can maintain them though, going for touch-ups every five or so years can slow the deterioration process but in all honesty if you really think long and hard before you get a tattoo you will see these eventualities coming and decide if you think you can handle it or not. The people who really make me laugh as far as tattoos are concerned are people who walk in get a piece of flash off the wall and say put that on me. It's always something lame like a swallow or a skull that has nothing to do with anything and will look really dumb later in life.
ReplyDeleteTattoos are a tricky business personally i try to get ones that are original or challenging for the artist so at least I can say 1. Nobody has the same tats as me and 2. real effort and skill went into their creation. That's the kind of revolution tattooing has undergone over the past 10 years or so it has become a real art form rather than something sailors and criminals have, as those pictures show.
Cheers for the response. Pretty much agree with everything you said there. Plenty have such skill involved, it's amazing. Especially if it/they are well thought out with a degree of artistic talent, then they can look so good, or even if they're simple. I'm also not a fan of picking one of the wall, and I think that's where the 'fashion' element comes in....the old "Im getting a tattoo, but I don't know what" I find that quite fasciniating. It's completely the opposite of what we experience nowdays on the highstreet with disposable fashion. I find it pretty interesting
